The Priestess Path: Remembrance of the Autumn Equinox

ree

The Autumn Equinox is a sacred turning point on the great wheel of the year, a moment when light and dark, day and night stand in perfect balance. For the Priestess, this is not only a seasonal marker, but a portal into deeper remembrance—a time to honor the cycles of death and rebirth, of letting go and preparing for what is to come.

In ancient times, the Priestess was the one who carried the wisdom of these cycles. She guided her community through ceremony, ensuring that humanity remained aligned with the rhythms of Earth and Cosmos. The Autumn Equinox was a time of gratitude for the harvest, reverence for the ancestors, and release of all that could not journey into the winter ahead.

Isis and Mary Magdalene: Guiding Lights of Balance and Release

In the mysteries of Isis, the Egyptian Mother Goddess, we are reminded that nothing is ever truly lost. As the goddess of magic and resurrection, Isis teaches us to transform endings into beginnings, grief into wisdom, and surrender into strength. Her rites at this season often included offerings of grains, fruits, and herbs, given in thanks for the abundance of the Earth.

Mary Magdalene, beloved of the Rose Lineage, offers us another sacred mirror. She embodied compassion, devotion, and the sacred union of opposites. The balance of light and shadow at the Equinox reflects her teachings—that true wholeness comes from embracing both the radiant and the hidden within ourselves. Through her path, we learn to walk into the darker half of the year not with fear, but with love and faith.

Together, Isis and Magdalene invite us into remembrance: endings are holy, and release is a sacred act of devotion.

Ancient Rituals and Practices of the Equinox

The Autumn Equinox has long been honored with rituals of balance, gratitude, and release:

  • Harvest Offerings: Communities gathered fruits, grains, apples, and herbs, placing them upon altars or offering them to the fire in gratitude for abundance.

  • Balance Ceremonies: Stones, candles, or scales were used in symbolic acts of balancing dualities—light/dark, masculine/feminine, life/death.

  • Fire Rituals: Sacred flames received offerings of what was no longer needed, transforming prayers of release into light.

  • Ancestral Communion: As the veil between worlds thins, people honored their ancestors and sought wisdom for the season ahead.

These practices, when remembered and reborn in our lives today, anchor us into alignment with the cycles of Earth and Spirit.

Integration for Mind, Body, and Soul

🌿 Mind

Take time for reflection. Write in your journal: What am I ready to let go of? What belief, habit, or thought pattern is taking up space that could be used for growth? Observe how resistance arises when change comes. With compassion, practice releasing the need to control. This gentle surrender is an act of balance.

🌿 Body

The body, too, longs to align with the Earth’s turning. Create a grounding autumnal self-care ritual:

  • Bathe in warm water infused with cinnamon, clove, or rosemary.

  • Walk barefoot among the fallen leaves, feeling their crunch and the cooling earth beneath you.

  • Wear warm earthy tones to wrap yourself in the season’s embrace.

  • Practice yoga poses of release, such as child’s pose or forward folds.

  • Purify your physical space: clean a closet, organize your sacred altar, smudge your home with sage, rosemary, or cedar.

🌿 Soul

Build an autumn altar with treasures from the season—fallen leaves, pinecones, apples, dried herbs. Light a candle, and as you gaze into its flame, speak aloud what you are ready to release. Offer it to the fire with love and trust. Then, call upon your ancestors, guides, and the wisdom of Isis and Magdalene. Listen deeply, for this is a time when the veil is thin, and their voices are near.

The Way of the Priestess

Sweet SiStar, let autumn guide you into a deeper rhythm of being. Trust the sacred pause. Release is not loss—it is preparation. You are making space for new dreams, new energies, and new growth.

This is the way of the Priestess. She honors the ending, and she trusts the beginning. She knows that in the fall, she must let go, so that in the spring, she may rise again.

Let yourself fall, so that you may rise.

Let yourself release, so that you may receive.

Let yourself rest, so that you may awaken renewed.

You are so deeply loved, so deeply guided, and so deeply held in this turning of the wheel.
